Legally no, but with electric bike prices as high as £2,500 it is a good idea to work out the cover you need.

What does it cover?

The following usually come as a standard but you need to check thoroughly your policy details before commiting:

  • Accidental damage and theft

  • Personal Accident cover

  • Replacement hire cycle

What are the extras?

The following usually come with extra costs and are not covered by your policy:

How much is it?

It depends on the value of your bike. For a bike worth £1,000 the average policy is around £80 - £100 and for a bike £500 is around £40-£60.

What do you need to be aware of?

You should always read carefully your policy details for hidden fees. Also, you need to check for excess fees.

Make sure that your insurer provides “New for Old replacement” which means that in the event of theft your bicycle will be refunded or replaced to the amount you bought it and not its current market value
